Whoa, nice prizes! Congrats to all the winners - I kept meaning to participate, but putting it off. It was fun to follow the threads on Rav and spy on people's progress, though!

Hi,
I believe I ran into you at Rhinebeck, and raved about your hot pink Knitty sweater and you so graciously took it off so that I could try it on. I have been obsessed with it ever since. I could swear you said you used something heavier than the pattern called for? Any probs you ran into along the way that you could dispell for me would be greatly appreciated.
thank for your generosity. suzala
Ps I prefer Rehinebeck to Maryland. Perhaps it's the crispness of the air? This year we were really lucky with weather, as often it rains on the wool and sheep fest.

This is such a great idea :) I'd be willing to do something with designing your own knit toys - or, maybe reverse engineering things to knit items you see in movies/stores?

yes I know - part of the reason why I love it so much :)

For SAFF - if I'm not heading to TX (which is looking like a no), maybe we can pop up for a visit. That is my anniversary weekend afterall ;)

Dude. You're gonna be able to see that sweater from *space* (which makes me happy - I'll be able to find you in the Rhinebeck crowd!)

How about the Southern Adirondack Fiber Festival? I'll be there, with bags on. ;o)

I absolutely agree. There has to be a limit - and we have the same thing at our group - the "helpers" will rotate through those that have issues - sometimes someone different providing the help is what it takes for the help to sink in - I found that to be the case when I was a statistics tutor at Pitt.

I like how you trade projects in your Wednesday group - what a neat idea.

I struggle with this a bit thanks to my LYS job. Yes, people need to learn and grow in the craft, but sometimes there are limits. Two people in our Thursday group at the store come to mind.

One of them, M, just can't seem to progress. She has handed an in-progress Barn Raising Quilt square to my LYSO and asked her where to take the next stitch. She's working on a linen stitch scarf that I think I've fixed a dozen times for her. I try to make sure she learns, but there are times when it's just not worth it. And then I'll just do another row or get her over the hump so she can get knitting again.

The other one, D, is just slooooow. A kid sweater (like a size 2) that you or I could knock out in a weekend has taken her six months. She learns, she really does. But she's so slow that she forgets what she did last time she got to that point.

Of course, then there's my Wednesday (non-store) knitting group that includes LYS workers from three local shops. Sometimes we have a project we just can't face and we'll trade just to get someone moving again. I'd go pretty far to help someone, but sometimes there need to be limits.
